Workshops

Led by Professor Winston Sealy, the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Gender Relations, and Sustainable Development, in collaboration with CariSTEM, organized workshops on using Raspberry Pi for STEM education. The initiative aimed to introduce teachers and students to the platform, enhancing engagement and practical learning in coding, engineering, and mathematics. These workshops, attended by two students and one teacher from each secondary school, concluded successfully, providing Raspberry Pi 3 Model B Starter Pack Kits to participating schools.

Minnesota Academic Standards in Science were updated in 2009 to emphasize engineering, posing a challenge for K-12 teachers lacking training in the subject. To address this, Winston Sealy partnered with the Minnesota Center for Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence to create a "Teach the Teacher" program. In June 2013, Sealy held a workshop at Hilltop Elementary School, engaging teachers in hands-on activities and curriculum development. Positive feedback led to plans for workshops at other schools.
